More To Say about Kristy

We take speaking for granted, but for some it just doesn't come easily...or at all...

Kristy is a NZ trained Speech Language Therapist who works alongside family members, school teams and community based carers to enhance the lives of individuals with limited spoken communication.  Her 20 years experience has been gained in Special Schools across Auckland; in a Child Rehabilitation Service; with adults and children through a Specialist AAC Centre,  in Private Practice, and on staff at Massey University's Speech Language Therapy Training Programme.

Kristy's will is for all people, no matter how limited their speech, to "have a voice", in whatever form, in order to connect more deeply with those that matter to them. She enjoys challenging perceptions of what IS possible, providing realistic and practical guidance to clients and their support people, as they explore options and create a path for progress.  This often includes a focus on extending functional literacy skills, as individuals seek engagement in and through digital platforms.
Kristy's approach is open and empowering.  Clients are viewed as competent and able communicators, who benefit from support in understanding and working with, not against, the physical, cognitive and sensory challenges that may "get in the way" of successful communication interactions. This is driven by the right for all to have access to communication methods that foster understanding ; interaction and connection.
